Sakat Chauth, also known as Tilkuta Chauth, Sankat Chauth, and Maghi Chauth, is observed with deep devotion by mothers for the long life, wisdom, and protection of their children. Lord Ganesha and Sakat Mata are worshiped with sesame seed and jaggery delicacies (Tilkut).
Observed during Krishna Paksha Chaturthi of Magha month, this fast delivers devotees from severe difficulties and removes obstacles from family life.
According to legend, a poor potter's kiln failed to bake utensils. Advised by an ascetic, the potter sacrificed a widow's only child into the kiln on Sakat Chauth. The mother prayed wholeheartedly to Lord Ganesha. Due to the divine grace of Ganesha, the fire turned cool, the pots turned golden, and the child was found safely playing inside unharmed.
